As a child, I had many ideas about what I wanted to be when I grew up. Some days I had my mind set on art, then I’d be set on acting, and the next day I’d want to be a movie director. Swirling through all of these ideas was one consistent theme: storytelling. I have always loved the idea of storytelling, it’s truly an art form. Now couple this passion for storytelling with a mind that is constantly curious about the “why”, well, you’ve got yourself a journalist in the making.

Broadcast journalism has always been a part of my life. Whether it was watching a morning news show while getting ready to go to school or gathering in the living room to watch the evening news after dinner. For years, I’ve been captivated by the power that lies within journalism. I’ll never forget the first time I toured a news studio at 10 years old. I was in awe of the studios and control rooms, and it was at that moment that I knew I wanted to be a part of the action one day. Now 11 years, later, I’m turning my dream into a career

About Alissa

My Time At Temple

In my 4 years here at Temple University, I have been committed to making the most of my journey, pursuing journalism wholeheartedly.

I’ve had a role in various aspects of production both behind the scenes and in front of the camera at Temple University Television (TUTV). Currently, I serve as an anchor/reporter and producer for Temple Update, our 30-minute newscast that airs live on TUTV every Thursday. There is nothing like the adrenaline of getting news on the air from the start of pre-production to the end of the live show. Whether I am in front of the camera or behind the scenes what lies at the very foundation of my reporting are empathy, accuracy, and integrity. For me, it’s not just about telling the story, it’s about getting to the heart and communicating the impact and importance. Because when audiences are informed, they are powerful. Armed with the knowledge to propel communities forward.
